When we learned we were going to become grandparents I decided it was time to build a rocking chair. It was finished before he was born, but not by much. I didn’t have any plans or instructions or experience in rocking chairs, and very little in chairs at all, but it came out okay. It’s quite comfortable…I used my wife to figure out how big to make it and where to place the arms for holding a baby. Except for a thirty yeayr difference my wife and daughter are about the same size. (Pretty neat, huh?) He’s almost four now and I’m about to start a second rocker only this time I got in touch with Bill Kappel and he sent me the beta on rocking chairs. It’s a good thing I didn’t know how hard these things were four years ago…I never would have tried it.

Nice work. Todd, Bill Kappel aka, The Rocking Chair Guy, is a guy that is know to make the odd chair or two. He also offers paid for and free instruction on chair making.

It really is something for a first effort. I can’t wait to see what the 10th one will look like. Very nice.

Hard to believe that this chair was your first attempt at chairmaking. You seem to catch on quick. Really nice looking chair and it looks very comfortable.

That’s awsome! A rocking chair is on my list of “things to make”.

A beautiful chair. I find it fascinating the things that can be done when we don’t know that we’re not supposed to be able to do them.

Believe me…if I do then you certainly do. Besides, I looked at some of your projects and they’re excellent. The trip up the coast looked nice also…takes me back about 35 years to when we lived in Oxnard!
