This is a Diamond Willow Cane with a Pheasant Theme I carved for a friend of mine on commission.
Sorry about the photos as it is hard to get the entire bird in a picture when it wraps around the cane and I also took them with my cellphone.
The cane is Diamond Willow and the handle is Butternut.

The carving looks really delicate and well done. I used to live in Onamia near Millacs lak on my grandparent farm there during WWll.

Thanks Stefang.
I wish the photos could show the whole bird in one shot but hard to do that when your carving something round.

True, but it looks good. How is carving Diamond Willow? not easy to find over here in Chicagoland. But I have known about it for years for making canes. Just too leery to purchase some just to sit among my huge pile of “favorite woods I never touch, but only stare at” ~ a display a repeat client recently asked if it was a sculpture in itself… i guess it is.. but I can not justify adding more to it.
