This is my latest project from school. A simple night table with a drawer and a door.
The front of drawer was made using a dovetail jig, and i gotta say they are ugly little 1/2” dovetails. Too small and too even, they just don`t look right, so i made a new drawer with hand cut dovetails, its just waiting to be stained and sprayed then brought home. i`ll upload pics of that when its done.
The door i`m happy about, frame and panel construction, the panel is re-sawn 8/4 oak for a book match and i got lucky with some striking grain in there.
I tried a little star pattern with some rosewood veneer one of my teachers gave me, intended to do the full nautical star but time constraints made it a more simplistic design.
The case, top and plinths are particle board and veneer, the door and drawer solids.

You can put bits of your creation down all you want.
You’ll get no help from me, though.
I just love it :-)

I think the small regular dovetails fit the overall design of this piece. IMHO, handcuts might just be slightly artsy for this table. This is a fine example of a what a school project should be and a great demonstration of your furniture building skills. It earns an ‘A’ in my gradebook.
I bet you have it for years and years.

thanks a lot guys.
@vicrider- you may be right about the dovetails, the drawer is done i just need to spray it so when i get it home in a few days ill post a pic so you can see.
@jim jakosh- the veneer pattern i did by first cuttin the diamond shapes by tracing a pattern on all them to get a consistent sahpe. then i taped two of them together making 4 pieces. then i lay those over top of the background pieces, traced them and cut them with a straight edge and an excto.
if i was gonna do it again id make the whole background, tape all the diamonds together and cut them all out as one.
