This is a watch storage box that I constructed to play with some veneering techniques. It is composed of maple burl veneer that I attempted to wrap completely around the box, which worked out ok. The trim is Wenge and the lining and dividers are cherry. It has Brusso hardware and a jewelry box latch in the front which was a delight to install (very nice piece of hardware). The finish is just multiple coats of poly for durability.

Fun project and thanks for looking.

Nice veneer, nice matches, nice box.
Nice work!
Be careful, veneering can become all consuming. ..... don’t ask how I know. :-)

Really nice watch box. I like the combination of woods and the collection of Seiko divers. Oh, and the Seamaster too :)

Very nice work and impressive piece of veneer. The front latch really sets it off.

Nice box. Awesome veneer.

Got rid of my old watches (all of em beaters) when I figured out my “smart phone” had an Atomic Clock in it. Always know the time now, the beater watches always wanting batteries…..

Love the box. I’ve got a few that I want to protect in something like that, maybe a cabinet with a watch drawer….IDK. Couple Fossils, Citizen, A couple casio from my Grandfather like 30/40 yrs ago. Awesome work…BTW what material did you use to cushion the watch/hold it in the square.

That’s a beautiful box. What was the “base” under the veneer? Did you veneer before you cut the pieces to size? Vacuum, or other, veneer? I’ve never done any veneering, but I’ve been curious about learning to do so.

Richard, what a beautifully veneered and constructed box. The Wenge serves to frame the maple nicely and should help the box wear better through the years. This has a classic look and uses classic materials. What a fine design and wonderful craftsmanship. Keep boxing and keep posting.
