Kitchen, Too

Sometimes you just think a project is finished. I thought the kitchen was finished when I replaced all the old cabinets but it turns out there was more to do. We had an old, portable wine rack on top of our frig and I replaced that with a deep cabinet wine rack that comes out flush with the frig.

Our old pantry was just a small closet with a regular door and five particle board shelves. I included a before picture of it. I ripped out the door, jamb, and shelves and built a cabinet with eight deep pullout shelves that take advantage of every inch of space and bring everything out within easy reach.

I made the doors for the pantry using a biscuit joiner and router. The pullouts are basically shallow drawers but they have 3/4 inch plywood bottoms and have heavy duty drawer slides that are full extension plus 1 inch so they roll out fully. The finish on all the units is two coats of paint. One coat of primer and one coat of eggshell latex paint sprayed on with an airless spray unit.

I purchased the bottle racks and cut them to fit the cabinet. I painted all of it before final assembly so all the surfaces could be painted properly.

I think the kitchen is really finished now but time will tell.

Thanks Doug. My wife is thrilled with it because she has room to spare now and things don’t get lost in the back of the shelves.
