A little “before and after” of the kitchen remodel. One big oops…I built the corner/lazy-susan cabinet according to the dimensions shown in various books, in which the cabinet sits about 4” away from each wall; perhaps this is so the cabinet will fit through a standard doorway, or because it would end up too deep, I have no idea. Well, I forgot to account for the 4” and length wise for the run of cabinets when the installer lined up the cabinets they were 4” too wide. I couldn’t do anything about the corner cabinet because it had to be certain dimension for the lazy susan, so I had to remake the adjacent cabinet, including remaking the doors and drawers. There were two smaller drawers originally, but by the time the cabinet was shortened, they would have been somewhat useless, so I made one bigger one which has worked out well. I only had 48 hours to remake and finish the cabinet and when I went to make the drawer box, I didn’t have enough maple. So, I ended up making it out of a stick of birdseye maple that I’d been saving. The kitchen is pretty ho-hum, but I’m pretty sure it’s the only one with a birdseye maple drawer for miles around. :-)
