Just been messing around on the lathe lately. Still making hair sticks, but trying to push myself into harder pieces. These three here are all out of a previous wood gloat where a friend gave me some very nice Rosewood. This wood turns very well and I like it. Only one of these hair sticks are finished and that is the one with the Paduk (red) orb at the top, the white one is Holly wood, and I really like turning this wood. Very hard and very white, almost doesn’t look like wood when sanded, and the last one with a Red, White and Blue orb of laminated wood. Look at the color difference between the finished one and the two not finished. Quite a color difference, even though they are off of the same piece of wood. I was suprised with how the Rosewood darken up like chocolate. Very smooth also.

Had a large slab of old walnut in at work for us to make a gun stock with and this piece was left over, so I turned another billy club. 16 inches long, with gold paint beads on the hand grip. I could not get the camera to show the curly grain in this wood, but it is there. The balance is here also, would hate to get hit with this one.

The last project is of French Door Stops that I made after seeing them from a project that SteveL did. He gets a thanks for his design of French Doorstops at http://lumberjocks.com/projects/23236 You lathe them as one piece, around 12 1/2 inches long, and 2 inches square. Fun to do after I worked out what the size should have been…..

It’s getting so big here on LJ’s that our projects only stay on for a day or less. But that is ok you get to see more that way. Thanks for looking and keep looking up, God Bless.

They are really beautiful. Rosewood is one of my favorite woods. It is so beautiful. I love the rich, dark color of the finished one. I am glad you are still making them and I hope you find a good market for them soon. They need to be seen and used. Great job!
