The bowl on the left is Maple Burl. I found this to be especially challenging with the bark inclusion along the lip. I have started trying for a more artistic look. The second bowl is Redwood Burl from a veneer core that I picked up at Woodcraft for a couple of dollars. I was blown away by the sunburst pattern that showed up along the side.

I love the size/shape of the bowls.

Interesting: we just see the first bowl, hear about the craft show and now, you are moving on to the complex, “creative” elements. :) Well done! I’m excited for you

MsDebbie,

I really did jump from one to the other. This is something I have wanted to try for a long tim; just did not have the money. I now have a piece that I have been comissioned for a Christmas gift.

I’m just having fun trying out new woods and forms. Not to mention learning to sharpen the turning tools…..

That came out nice! I like turning burls. You often get to see something spectacular when finished.

Chris you are off to an excellent start. Can’t wait until I see some of your work 2-3 years from now (oh, wait – then I would be 2-3 years older, I guess I can wait). That sunburst pattern in the 3rd bowl make me think that you have a piece of Sheoak.
