I am new to turning and have been playing around trying to learn what the different tools do and how to use them and was thinking about what to do for my first project. Saw my 3 yr old nephews plastic baseball bat and figured that would be an easy first project. After trying twice with both pieces breaking on me I finally got one done on the 3rd try..3rd times a charm they say. I found this wood cut up from a newly fallen tree along side my road and figured I’d pick up a few pieces and this was the one that came out without breaking..don’t know if its cause it’s still green but I found that green wood cuts alot better than dry wood, from what I have played with so far. Not sure what this wood is but I think it’s oak but my dad(a cabinet builder) says it’s not oak so I don’t know. I’m happy with it for my first completed project. Next project post soon to come.
