Work Bench

Because I am moving and downsizing, I made a new, smaller workbench to take with me. It is a modified version of a Wedge-Based Workbench featured in American Woodworker. It is easily broken down into parts for moving but is still rock solid when put together and it is also small which fits with the smaller projects I anticipate working on. I am also going to make a Milk Man’s bench to compliment it.

Dimensions in inches:
Top – 18×60 x 2.5
Height – 36 inches
Weight – 145 pounds (estimate)

When it came to materials, I also wanted to use up scraps and cutoffs that I had around the shop in anticipation of moving. The top was part of a larger maple bench top formally used at a local high school. I repaired two edges with cherry strips that had been damaged when clamps were removed. The other woods used were:
Legs – Maple and cherry (maple re-used from an old loft bed)
Cross braces – Walnut – cutoffs from another project
Stretchers – American Cherry from a tree downed by a hurricane
Wedges – Jatoba – some old flooring
