This is a box I made for my niece who is also my Goddaughter. It was for her first birthday. It is made of mostly cherry. I like contrast so I put two maple strips in the lid. The bottom on the inside is lined with felt. The carving on the top and bottom was done with my home made cnc router. I describe the cnc in another project if you are interested. I wasn’t using the best cnc software back then so the cuts didn’t come out as nice as I would have liked. It’s also possible that I didn’t know what I was doing :-)
The finish is 8 coats of Formby’s Tung Oil Finish. After the first 3 coats I sanded with 1200 between.
Thanks for looking!

That is a great looking box Chuck. The finish really pops. Your Niece should enjoy that for many years to come.

Great work Chuck.
She’s going to keep that a looong time and think fondly of Uncle Chuck each time she sees it.

Chuck, this is certainly a nice looking box. It has an interesting design to it and adding the maple gives a nice contrast to the cherry. These is a wood combination that I often use as well.
