Last winter my Dad cut down a red oak tree too close to his house. He gave me a few logs. I started this one over 3 months ago. After I cut the blank on my bandsaw, I rough turned it leaving the walls over an inch thick. I sealed it in wax and brown bagged it to dry. I finished it today by re-turning it down to 1/2 inch thick and then sanded it. I put on 3 coats of BLO, mineral spirits, shellac mix. 2 coats of straight shellac on top of that and then 2 coats of Renaisance wax on that. One of the biggest ones I have done yet at 11 inches by 4.5 inches.

Interesting, how does shellac mix with mineral spirits? It’s alcohol based

Fantastic bowl with a family history to it. Nice work on bringing out the grain.
Keep it up.

Shellac and minerel spirtis and BLO mixes well. Like vinegar and oil dressing, just keep shaking it up.
