This is a red oak Box with a combination lock on it. It was tedious and awesome to make. It was one of those projects that kept me up at night, wanting to just trash it but when the end was in sight I just had to go for the finish line. It is styled after the standard Master Combo lock with the tumblers and a lever to unlock the mechinism. I took a few pics before It was actually completed because the finished box does not open to reveal the working parts, it stops just before. All in all I am very pleased with how it turned out. The last two pics are the skeleton in open and closed positions, the pin slides into the handle when locked. This lock is made entirely from red oak except the birch dowl, the tumblers are oak ply, and the pointer is purple heart for a splash of color. Thanks for looking!
Ps the best thing about this whole project was showing it to my six year old brother, with everyone impressed and marvelling at the box he said “Yeah but he’s smart because he knows how to draw a dragon”
So I wanted to draw up some plans but I am still pretty new at sketchup and instead of making you guys wait I found a site that explains a combo lock pretty simply and with a little engineering I am sure you guys can make some incredible stuff.

Yes… very cool!
Any way you can go into simple detail on the combination/lock?
Links to something?
Really, very nice!
Thank you.

Niiiice!!! I really like this kind of engineering in timber. This one must have kept you busy for some time! You obviously know a lot about locks…

Hey Joe, I don’t know how simple you want me to make it, I still work on graph paper haha. But I am going to attempt to draw it up on some computer program and get it to ya.

Edward83: Thank you… but make it for us... not just me…
Looking forward to seeing what you did…
You could always scan it to a jpg… & post the pic.
