House Warming Gift

This is a house warming gift for some friends – Nuno and Luísa, who have just moved from the city “into the wild”. Of course, it’s yet another “Two cups of coffee and a packet of crisps please” – a very popular item that just about everyone can make use of.
The original “inspiration” came from the Japanese Torii, but, as often seems to be the case, by the time it’s gone from mind to wood it’s become something quite different.
The final picture shows what I started with (except the base, which is Macassar ebony veneer – a “test piece” I made about 8 years ago!) – I find it immensely satisfying how “scraps and offcuts” with so little apparent potential can be transformed into something useful and, I dare say, beautiful (or at the very least interesting).

Fumed oak, ash, jatobá, BBQ and cocktail sticks.

Cool looking project and should make a nice house warming gift. Too bad you couldn’t get country diner on the cups since they moved out in the wild. Nice job.

A very nice conversation piece while having a snack!

I like the way you Pinned it all together! ... and the various woods…
