My daughter is turning 9 this month and wanted a Harry Potter themed birthday party. That gave me an excuse to try making wands. I don’t have a lathe so everything was done on the belt sander. I think I got better the more I made and I took some learning from some YouTube videos to make spirals and tapers which surprisingly worked quite well. I also knocked up a few boxes out of 1/4” ply which look a bit ratty bit the kids loved them.

Now I want a lathe :)

I’m impressed you did this all with a belt sander. I’ve been making these on the lathe for a while (though they don’t sell well in my etsy shop).

They look great – the boxes too. The boxes look old like something that contained a dark secret inside for a long time. Nice work and cool themed gift for the attendees! They’ll probably hold on to for a lifetime too.

Great looking set of wands—I’ll bet all the youngsters loved them!
