Cornhole in Scarlet and Gray

These cornhole boards are made with oak ply and red oak boards. I used pocket hole joinery with wood glue. Finished with three coats of poly. The boards almost seem too nice to use outside, but can’t wait for the first game. All I need now are the corn bags… my bag lady ;-) has been busy moving, but I expect to have them by 23 July for a big yard party. Go Buckeyes!!

Update 7/14/10: My bag lady came through with time to spare! Let the games begin!

I made these for my son in law customized with his fav college basketball team. I painted those. I like the woodgrain you reveal. GOOD, FUN JOB!!!

Only the best colors ever and the boards look great. I imagine that those boards are going to be slick. I get comments/complaints about how slick my boards are all the time and I didn’t use that much poly. I like them, but it does make for longer games.

Tim, I have the same concern about the boards being too slick but I wanted to make sure they are protected from the elements and the pounding from the corn bags. I’ve played on both types, too slick and not slick enough. I would say I don’t like the boards that are too slick. I figure if the boards are too slick causing the corn bags to slide off too easily, I and can add sex wax to the boards (the same stuff surfers use on their boards to make them tacky). That way I can control the level of play ;-) giving me a home court advantage.
