This was a spur of the moment type thing. I had alot of scraps laying around the shop and it hit me, a birdhouse with no worries of snakes. Most birdhouses you have to open the side or the front, well if a snake is there you just got bit. With this house you simply slide the bottom out of the house. I put a dado cut on both sides and the back, the front is cut a inch short to allow the bottom to slide. Along with a vent in the back and 2, 1/2 vents on both sides you get a real rounded bid house!

it’s stuff like this that makes me happy I live in the Canadian maritimes….no snakes to worry about here; especially in birdhouses.

Very nice birdhouse – I’m sure they will be very happy with their new accommodations. Snakes in birdhouses? I live in Maine and we have no poisonous snakes – have never heard of snakes being in anyone’s birdhouses. Snakes can climb trees? Shows what I know about snakes – we have garden snakes, that’s about it. When I saw the roof, first thing I thought was that it would be a perfect location for a small solar array. Guess it could power a night light for the birdies, eh?

Very nice birdhouse William. I’m not that far from you and we can find a variety of snakes in a variety of places.
