A couple of years ago a buddy gave me some pipe spacers and wondered if I could use them .
Well after re sawing and planing this is the first project a box for a young man .
The wood is in my opinion some type of mahogany and not the best grain but totally usable for boxes like this and other small projects . The box is mitered at the corners which are covered with a corner molding and caps top and bottom the lid is simple frame and panel construction and pair of barrel hinges and a hammered steel ring for the lid make the lid operate nice .The bottom is lined with top grain leather and the finish is three coats of satin poly .

This should make a good box for all his keepsakes .

That’s a beauty, Klaus. It seems that the wood always finds what it wants to be!!

Finally a Klaus box I can look at and figure out how it was assembled 8^)

I think the grain works well with the boxes size, another nice piece of workmanship.

You may have used a mild grain wood but with your style and other wood combos you turned it into a winner.Nice work Klaus. I like the 3 panel top too.

The wood dictates the design at times and all I do is follow most of the time .
