I got the idea for this project from one recently posted here by americancanuck. It was one of those “it’s just so simple” projects. That sounded bad, didn’t it…but I do not mean that in a negative way.

I thought my grand kids would like something like that but I was certain that they would lose the markers so I made mine where the game block would also be a container for the markers so that it could be easily and quickly put away. I also wanted the lid of the container permanently attached so that wouldn’t be mess maker either. So the board is just under 6” square cherry with some scrap walnut inlaid for the dividers . The markers are 1 3/8” poplar dowel that I found at Lowes. I made the stencils using Sketchup and colored them in using a sharpie. I put an X and O on the end of each piece so you just grab one and flip it over for your marker and play it. The lid rotates open using a similar idea that I got from a Steve Ramsey video. When it swings shut there is a rare earth magnet that works as a catch to hold it closed but it’s pretty tight so far and will probably wear it some.

Nicely done and the accent strips add to the carefully thought out design .

Hey Scott I think your game is just great. I recently was at a craft show where I sold all 6 of the ones I had made so I will be making more. I really like your idea of on board storage and I will be using it in the future.
