This year we have been fortunate with an explosion in the number of grandchildren from 1 to 3 :)

A while back I made a puzzle stool for the 1st grandchild, Caleb.

Now I need to make 2 more for my new grand-daughter’s.

My wife requested a design change for these 2 new stools. She wanted the child to be able to easily remove the letters with the stool in the normal orientation…........versus having to dump it over. My solution was to cut out the letter pockets using 15 degrees on the scroll saw. This gives enough clearance for the child to get their fingers around the top of the letters.

I made a test letter at 15 degrees, and a second letter pocket at 20 degrees. My wife chose the 15 degree version.

In Sketchup, I took the view up into the letters, and printed the letter cut-out pattern…........then glued it to the bottom of the stool base. When I scroll sawed the letter pockets, the bottom of the stool was up on the scroll saw. You also have to make sure you saw in the right direction to get the angle the right way.

The stool and letters are made from maple. The legs were purchased from Menards.

Thanks

Thanks!

The 1st grandson is about 2.5 years old now. He turns his stool over to dump out the letters…..........then sets the stool upright…........and puts the letters back 1 by one. Hopefully, the grand-daughters will like their puzzles as well :)

These stools are very creative and you have done a fine job on them.
