Well, title says it all.
I used different types of wood to get illusion of coloured finish. Walnut, cherry, maple an some pine.
For finish I used linseed oil.

I like the idea and the result is very fine too.
Your fine work reminded me of A shelf I had seen.
There is a map of North Dakota made as a wall shelf display for toy tractors in the IHC dealer in Minot, ND.
