Haven’t posted in awhile, turned the wood shop into an auto shop for a few weeks, my son’s head gasket blew, my wife’s car needed work on rear end, and then my truck blew a head gasket. Never liked working on cars that much (I hate it), but I like not paying the man more. First time I tore down an engine and both actually started up and have been running great with no problems. Yeah!! Saved a few thousand bucks over the three vehicles, I sure liked that!
My friend called me to put some doors together, he does some remodeling and built ins, but doesn’t like doing doors. Managed to squeeze it in between vehicles. He wanted paint grade which turned out great for me, been salvaging wood from a flooring place where they throw out strapping cauls, and some mdf sheets, cauls are 2 1/2×2 1/4×42, managed to save up allot of poplar, oak and even some purple heart and some mahogany, mdf sheets are 1/4, 1/2, and 5/8 all about 3’ x 4’, some are coated on both side with plastic laminate, should make great jigs and templates.
Used poplar and mdf to make the doors, which he requested for paint grade, resawed the cauls cleaned them up and glued three of them together, then cut them in half to make the rails and stiles wide enough. Turned out well, he was happy, and made a few bucks for the auto shop.
Last pick is the purple heart, can’t believe it was headed to the dump.
This is some of my favorite wood, FREE!!

Those doors sure came out nice Z.
All the wood I use is reclaimed like that you used for the doors.
It’s amazing what people toss out that is still useful.
(Wish I could find some of that cool purple heart though)
Nice job!

Wow, those pieces of “junk” I have thrown out are really some decent wood? Never would have guessed. Time to start picking up some “junk”.
