I recently replaced the old plastic Snooker-Billiards score board with one i made. I thought of buying one but was disappointed with the quality of the numbers plate, they were all made out of plastic or gold plated paper?. This drove me to make one.
The biggest hurdle was getting the numbers plate made. I found a signwriter who would computer engrave the numbers on brass plate.
I used Australian ‘spotted gum’ (a eucalyptus hardwood) in 3 pieces purchased to form the main casing.
I used “Gidgee” (very hard desert wood) to turn a small insert from a piece of firewood I brought back from a trip in the outback.
No special joinery techniques other than rebates in the top & bottom rails with biscuit joints.
The Only problem was the cost blow out. The engraved brass plate was as expensive as buying a manufactured scoreboard but I ended up with a satisfactory result.
