I’m cutting some fresh (i.e. wet) Camphor Laurel for a friend into 2”x2” – (in exchange I get the crotch etc, so, yes I score !).
Whilst doing it, I had to cut a 6mm thick slab off, this piece “showed” me a spatula-spoon, so & rough shaped it on the bandsaw and finished it off at home with the rotary tool, drill etc.
As you all know, that’s how addiction start…. just one spoon…
So, not able to help myself, I did another two larger spoons, and I’m afraid, it won’t be the last, but I can live with that.
The knot in the ladle was superglued, but if it decide to rebel, I’ll fix it with fiberglass resin.
All were microwaved in short bursts to drive off the moisture, & seems to be a success.
Once fully cured, I’ll oil them with olive oil.
They are rough & rustic, but that’s what I wanted, so I’m happy, & best of all, so is the wife ! =)
Certainly not “fine art”, but fun to do.
