As one can tell from the photos this second floor project started with the elimination of the three french doors (two fixed, one operable) and a small exterior balcony. New windows were framed in before I got involved. Design is mine with client input (naturally).
Frame is New Zealand radiata pine (Home Depot), panels are MDF, and the seat and back is paint-grade birch ply. There is also some 1/2 baltic birch interior floor pianels.

Does the middle section open or is it fixed?

All three sections have continuous “piano” hinge and open against the slanted back.
The unit is 102.5 inches in width and a a fraction of an inch under 25 inches deep. Center section is 63-1/4 wide.
