This is my first attempt at a humidor. I made the exterior box from walnut. The edging was made from an assortment of hardwoods I had left over (padauk, maple, orange wood, liptus, purpleheart ect.). The inner box I made from birch ply veneered on one side with spanish cedar. I used rabbits for all the joints. Hardware I used was quadrant hinges (pain in my butt) and a small box lock ordered from Lee Valley (cheap.. get what you pay for). finished with tung oil on the exterior.

Cool. I need to make one for myself. I have some 8/4 spanish cedar left over from a door that i want to use. For a box it certainly is hard to figure out what you want to do. Good job.

I’ve often wondered about using those quadrant hinges. I really like your humidor especially the edging. That’s a new technique I will try.

Looks like success to me!

The edge work looks very interesting, glued into strips then applied?

I have a few pairs of quadrant hinges waiting for the perfect project, I fear the routing needed 8^)

Yes the box was seamless until I installed the quad hinges. lol. Next time I would take the time to make a jig/template. The hinges came with no instructions whatsoever.

Yes I glued the edging into blanks and then cut to size. Thank you

Nice job. My first humidor created firewood; will try again someday.

Have your say...
