A tree service left me a couple of moderately-sized logs the other day. They said that it was from a standing-dead American Elm. I have never worked with elm before. The shavings from this stuff kind of stink!
My goal here was to make as thin a wide rimmed bowl as I could. I came very near 1/8” thickness. I also decided to add small grooves along the underside, which gives the bowl a nice tactile element when it’s handled.
The rim is 8” diameter, the bowl is 3 1/2” diameter and stands 1 1/2” tall.
