Custom Walnut Vanity:
This commissioned piece features full extension drawers in a painted exterior grade MDO case with inset walnut shelf that can be removed for access to plumbing. The top is 1 1/4” Black Walnut that is coated with Epifanes Marine Spar Varnish and was hand rubbed to a high gloss.

Beautiful work, and epifane is a great finish, too many spare the quality finish because it cost a few extra dollars, I’ve never understood that. You did a great job here.

This was my first time using Epifanes, my only suggestion is to allow at least 3 weeks before you rub it out to the desired sheen. It also cures very slowly… I know that www.jamestowndistributors.com sells an accelerator that speeds the drying process and I assume that you can also use a standard Japan Dryer also. It is a great product and the cost is really not a factor, especially since you thin it so much… a little goes a long way. We will see how it holds up for this client’s piece.

what were your steps to getting to MDO to look like this? is it the same process for MDF??

That is one fine finish you have there. I really like the overall combination and appearance of the entire vanity. Painting the cabinet really seems to have made the walnut stand out. Not that it wouldn’t have stood out anyway with a finish like that!
