my first train

This is my first attempt at a train. I had a lot of fun making it, primarily because I made the car carrier and cabose with my dad. He lives 2000 miles away and hasn’t done any woodworking in almost 25 years. I could tell he was having so much fun. He retired on June 1 this year…I wonder if he will pick up the hobby again.
I think I am going to attempt several of these for a craft fair on the 4th of July.
The use of woods vary, but it is mostly walnut, maple, oak, and bloodwood…pretty easy to identify in the pictures. The car connections are simple; the “towing” car has a rare earth magnet epoxied in to a small block. The care getting towed has an upholstry nail with a round head epoxied into a matching block.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my new toy.

Looks great.

If you end up making them for sale at a craft fair, you may want to look into the ceramic magnets they use on the other trains (they are ceramic magnets with hole to drive a rounded steel tack into). The rare earth magnets are pretty strong and sometimes run into problems with little kids (swallowing them, or some piece of steel whacks into them and they break and when they break they are pretty jagged). I think I have seen rare earth magnets that have a hole and bevel for a countersunk screw. That might not be a bad choice either.

Toys are great fun; always well received by children. Good work.
