The Thistle and the Rose

I was honoured and delighted to be invited to make a wedding box for the daughter of very close friends. The brief was to include a thistle and a rose as the joining of these two flowers is often used to symbolize marriage.

The historical perspective dates back to August 1503 when King James IV of Scotland married Princess Margaret Tudor of England.

England’s official flower is the rose: classic, romantic, and idealized. Scotland’s is the thistle: wild, prickly, and beautiful in its ruggedness.

Wonderful job Colin. You put a lot of time into that and it shows.

This is an outstanding box and beautifully done. It has very nice details and craftsmanship.
