Here’s a small walnut and oak box I made a few months back. Many of you will recognize it from the Doug Stowe box making books. It was one of my first boxes I was proud to show off, therefore it’s one my favorites. It currently sits on my coffee table.

The box was finished with several coats Watco Medium Walnut Danish Oil, and then a coat of paste wax. With the oak top, I wet sanded the oil into the top to bring out the grain.

One thing I learned from this project, is to use dark(er) paste wax on walnut, you can really see the natural colored wax once it cures.

Any comments are appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Nice job! It’s a nice box-making book…

Also, cool photography – maybe Doug will use it for his next edition. :)

Great box. Like the color/wood combo. Need to get that book for myself one of these days.

Keep it up.
