Lithophane Carving

This is not a wood creation, but I thought some people might like this.
I make them on a CNC machine out of Corian material and a software program which, by loading a photo into it, gives me a negative of a photograph and [the program] creates a code for my CNC machine to cut out the negative. The dark areas appear as high spots and the lighter areas become low spots on the Corian material. When light is passed through the Corian it becomes a three dimensional picture. It is hard to believe the visual effect of the photograph!! You can put them on/in a window and see the photos – or a box which is made with a light source. Most Photographs work as a lithophane.

Did the software come with your CNC machine or does it come as a stand alone program? If stand alone, may I have the name of the program? If it came with your CNC machine, is it a Carvewright machine? Thanks for your response in advance.

First off this is so cool. Second, will you be offended if some of us do this as well? Third please let us know the cnc and software. My wife is a degreed photographer and she would love to do some of these. Again just fantastic.

The Machine I use is a K2 9850 CNC which is a 4’ X 8’ table but the company does have smaller machines. The program is a stand alone and will work with any CNC & Carvewright machine. The name of the program is PhotoVCarve. And no I’m not offended I’m happy to share with you. lots of people do this, And if your not ready to purchase your own machine and software I can do any photo as a lithophane for you.
