My first Bandsaw Box

Yesterday and today, I made my first Bandsaw box. I glued up several planks of Cedar, trimmed it up on the bandsaw, and cut it into 4 pieces for 4 boxes. I made a small sketch, glued it to the block and cut it out. It turned out pretty good, for my first attempt. I’m having my kids ‘design’ their own for the remaining 3 blocks. I’ll post them when they are done.

Beware… they are more addictive than cutting boards… lol
Nice for a first attempt.. in fact very nice indeed.
Might I suggest that the laminations run vertical and not horizontal.. then when you cut the outer curve you will get a nice flow of grain… and if you have bookmatched the laminations different patterns will form..
Check my blog
Hope this helps you understand the process and that you take this in the spirit in which it is written…

I really like the simple (but cool) design of this piece. I think I may just have to flatter you and make one similar (you know the sincerest form of flattery thing….lol). All in all very cool!

Outstanding first try!

I also made my First band saw box just need to take & post the picture! I was fun but a lot of sanding cause I used a 1/4” blade instead of a 1/8” blade. But good job! Well done!

I like it!

I just got my first bandsaw and I’d love to learn to make boxes.
