Father's Day Box

Here is a box that I made for my Dad as a Father’s Day gift. I churned it out pretty quickly, so it’s not perfect, but I like the overall effect. It’s made out of “country” hard maple, walnut, and padauk for the splines. The box came out a little trapezoidal due to my rushed cutting, but it’s hard to tell. 5 coats of clear gloss wipe-on poly for the finish. Hinges are just bolted to the back, as I ran out of time… it would have been nice to mortise them in properly.

Nice Job. The heavy look makes it manly, just perfect for a father. I am sure he will treasure it. I know my favorite gifts are the ones my kiids made.

Great work – the splines look perfect!

One bit of constructive criticism though – you might want to use smaller hinges the next time – maybe even barrel ones.

Keep up the great work!
