This is an addition to my existing shop. Just created about 720 extra square feet of storage area. I added a 24 X 30 foot loft. 10 X 24 is on the left of the photo and is to be the finishing, clean-up room. Heavily insulated and conditioned space with a large sink. The remaining 20 X 24 is still shop space with room to spill out into the rest of the barn.
The framing is 10in engineered joists on 12in center and 3/4 in decking. The walls are traditional framing with 2×6 and OSB. The door is a full 4 feet by 7 feet to accommodate assembly tables and large projects. I obtained the materials for extremely reasonable prices here and there over the last year or two. Just a couple of details to finish. A rail above to put on and some florescent lights to hang in both rooms. I’ll move the air compressor into the loft and probably hard line the dust collector up there as well.
Putting large items in the loft is easy with a front end loader. The ceiling was placed a little over 8 feet high to allow flipping and turning of sheet goods.
The paint job was fast and easy since I borrowed an airless system to spray the walls and joists for better light.
It’s more construction than woodworking but thanks for looking.
YES, I admit and am in no way boasting, I am spoiled for space. It’s one of the perks of being in very rural area.
