First project - Recipe Box

This is my first posted project. I made my wife a new recipe box. The dimensions are 5.5 inches deep by 7 inches wide by 4.5 inches high.

I resawed the wood on my table saw, and then finished the cuts with a hand saw. I wanted to have the grain wrap around the box but that didn’t work as I had planned. The concept of wrapping the grain seemed so simple. My skills were not ready for the precision that you need to pull it off. I am, however, satisfied with the final product. Cherry is such a good looking wood.

I like the looks of wooden hinges and made these. The finish is boiled Linseed Oil.

Best regards,

I’ve been looking for a simple yet beautiful design for a recipe box….I do believe you have inspired me to tackle this project : ) Thank you !! That Cherry is only going to keep looking better with age and use : ) I’m glad that you didn’t give it 20 coats of Poly ! LOL
