Tried an American flag design using purpleheart for blue, bloodwood for red, and maple for white. Bloodwood and purpleheart look similar after adding mineral oil. Next time I’d use cherry instead of bloodwood.

All the woods darken when wet, especially with oil. Cheery will darken all by itself with age, too Try sycamore for a white wood!
