We found a good deal on a train set for our kids but needed the obligatory table to go with it. Prices for a well-built one were ridiculous and the cheap ones were just that. Perfect project for some leftover Ash that I had in the shop. This would actually make a good general use play table as well. The 3/4” MDF play surface is supported by a series of cleats. Top frame is butt joined with biscuits. All edges that kids would contact are rounded over with 1/4” roundover bit. Finish is a few coats of wipe on poly except green paint for the top.
The legs are bolted on so that you can add a longer set of legs as the kids grow to keep it at a comfortable height.
If you’re a Sketchup user, this is available on 3D Warehouse

Ahh where would we be without that raised edge to keep the entire set from sliding off the edge. LOL
Nice build Jeff.
My house is small so I made ours more into a coffee table chest style. This is a good reminder for me to dig out the photos and post it.

You just got me out of hot water with my 2 year old grand son. He is a Thomas fanatic. Thanks for sharing. And welcome to Lumberjocks. Rand
