This was given to my boss at office on his birthday gift. He was so amazed and several times, he asked me how I made the marketry in the bottom. Much more he wondered when I told him that the wood used is also recycled from century old wood (TIGER MOLAVE – Philippine hardwood) Being that hard, it is also very dense wood.

Great looking box. I also like the hinges you use

Autumn, Here in the Manila, Philippines it is quite difficult to buy hinges. The hinges I used for this box was bought in a department store (ACE Hardware) which is imported from Germany. Expensive but its worth enough for the purpose. I like it too because it stops the cover from reclining too much and it does not strain the joints of the box specially the sides.
Thanks to all.

Rand,
FYI, I was about to do the “MEGAN CHALLENGE” in connection with your grand daughter’s graduation gift. I want to make a video of the progress however last two weekends I was occupied in making two desk tables for my step niece and nephew. One is finished and the other is on its final touches. (I will do the posting later)
This coming Saturday, I may do Megan’s, the cover is done and the materials are already selected. I want to break a record of finishing it in 4 hours and I will be using very thin slats.. 3 mm thick (ebony) front and back, on the side walls are 6mm thick so that it will hold the dovetail and top and bottom will be 3 mm thick framed by old hickory picture frame. Watch for it. Of course my Babies will the the starring partners ….
Hope I can make a joyful day for your weekend…. LJ’s comes always with a lot of surprises..
Cheers and thanks,
-- Bert
