Project Information

A friend asked me to make a Hard maple bench for a wedding gift. The plan is to have the wedding guest sign the bench and then put a coat of poly/varnish to seal it…which means I don't have to put a finish on (YAY!!!).

It is made of 8/4 H. Maple. I used half lap joints to assemble the legs, which took two tries to get right. This build was also my first attempt at a through mortise & tenon for the cross bracing. I learned I need to sharpen my chisels. The angle braces are screwed from the underside. It is sanded down to 220 grit.

It was a fun build, and since my wife liked it I may get another shot at building another one.

Thank you for the kind words. The couple getting married thought it turned out too nice to have people writing all over it, so they kept it as is…so that made me feel pretty good.
