My daughter needed a small shelf to place some of her many ornaments on. The cabinet frame is Rimu, the internal shelves and back are ash, the stand is Maple and the outer shelf is Rimu. All up it took over about 15 hours (working at night once the kids were asleep).
All dovetails and joinery was handcut.
There are two small drawers missing from the photos which fit in the pockets (top right and bottom left). These are made of Kwila and are all hand cut dovetails as well.

She certainly is – but she told me I take far too long to make things.

You Kiwi’s sure have some strange sounding woods but they sure are pretty! As long as you have little girls theer is a never ending need for places to store and display doo-dads and thing-a-ma-jigs. They stay little girls until they are about 45 or so. As long as there’s a Daddy to build stuff.

Beautiful! The overall design nicely stimulates the artistic senses. I am a fan of this piece.

Well done. As Thomas said, strange names for the woods – but they are beautiful. I like it.

so elegant, so simplistic, so functional, so artistic.
A treasure indeed (even if it did take too long to build) too cute.

Very nice looking shelf. Bet your Daughter loved it. I was told one time to scribble a little something on the back or bottom just for her. She’ll treasure it forever. Just because you made it for her. jockmike

Added the final photo with the drawers in place. I have actually embedded a small disk (laser cut) which says ‘from the shop of Patrick oughton’ under the bottom shelf.
thanks for all the comments.
