A Cherry mantle based on a photo the client found in a magazine. 4/4 and 8/4 cherry, 89½” across the top. I was really thankful for the 76” jointer when working on that big slab! The inset panels are real wood (not ply) and the corbels are solid. The legs are each three pieces, mitered vertically, which leaves a recess for a ledger board. The homeowner did the stonework.

What makes this mantel so nice is that I don’t see just the mantel. It is mates perfectly with the stone and tile. There is no competition between the materials. It is an overall great look and design. The proportions are nice and everything is real clean.

Thanks for the comments!
No problems with heat so far. It’s a pretty good distance from the heat source and is finished with high grade conversion varnish which is pretty heat resistant.
I have to hand it to the homeowner with their choice and application of stone and tile. I helped with proportions, but they selected material style, color, etc. They made some really good design decisions that pull the whole hearth area together.

Nice work. Is that a natural finish on the cherry?
