Window Air Conditioner Enhancement Shelf

We recently bought a new window air conditioner.

The window opening is 43” wide, wider than the accordion extensions that come with the unit.

I cut some plywood inserts in order to fill the gap on each side.

Our window protrudes out like a bay window,

so I thought it would be a nice place to make a shelf.

The shelf kind of camouflages the AC, & we can always use more shelves for projects.

I used some leftover birch plywood, & some (Jatoba) Brazilian Cherry flooring for the facia.

Thanks guys,

I made this when I was recovering from cataract surgery.

I cut the plywood shelf piece 2 ” too long the first time.

Barb said, “it’s better than being 2” too short!” LOL

That Brazilian Cherry looks suspiciously like our Jatoba woodwork…..............(-:

Great idea for a potential eyesore.

Thanks for the COOL! comments guys.

You were right on with the wood ID, Jim.

Jatoba is correct, http://www.hobbithouseinc.com/personal/woodpics/jatoba.htm

as far as I know jatoba is just another name for brazilian cherry so it’s the same wood.

My wife wouldn’t let me clutter up our window air conditioners with something so beautiful Dick. Besides, with my luck I’d cut off a foot. LOL Real pretty job, but of course, that’s all you do. LOVE & PRAYERS mike
