Just finished a huge 4-month long trestle table build. All 8/4 hard maple, it’s 9’x3’ with seating for 10. Finished with dyed shellac and arm-r-seal. The client asked for “bombproof,” well they definitely got it with this!

She’s a beast of a table for sure, with the top/legs weighing in at about 300 lbs. the benches weigh about 80 lbs apiece. When your designing a project for a family of 10, you definitely need to overbuild to make sure things last for many years.

The structure is a 3.5” square H-style leg with half-lapped 8/4 support struts. The benches are constructed in exactly the same manner, all with 8/4 tops. The table can be disassembled easily and moved for storage if needed.

Good job, great idea being able to take it apart.

What a beautiful table. It displays a lot of fine craftsmanship.

Wow! Nicely done. Does the THM stand for something of yours or something meaningful to the client? I’m sure it was hard to keep all that Maple from blotching.

The THM is a monogram for the client/husband and family. Actually the maple didn’t blotch too badly, put on a transtint base coat, and toned with dyed shellac for consistency. Thanks for the affirmations!
