Hello everyone. I’m back to the boots again. My summer has been busy with my renovation jobs. so boot carving took second place. It’s been an awfully hot summer out here in southern Alberta. Lost a few pounds sweating it out on two projects, a fourteen foot long staircase and a 14×20 patio. I must say that I did a good job on both these projects. Have a lot of cut-off material which will show up as boots coming this fall.
Now to the manzanita boot. This wood was given to me by my friend who had spent his winters in Arizona. He has retired from carving and I was the recipient of his cache of exotic wood.
Manzanita root is ugly, hard, varied in colour, varied in shape, etc. I cut out the blank as best as I could trying to incorporate a boot shape as much as possible. Let the carving begin I said and the struggle continued and intensified through to the sanding and finishing. When I finished the project I had only one thought and that was, “The Devil made me do it!”
Here is the DEVIL’S BOOT!

Enjoy!
The Bootman!

My sympathies. BUT . . . You did a great job on an unusual piece of wood!!!
I like the “soft” finished look.

Wonderful creation.

Bob

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.
