The World Cup 2010 fever has given me this idea of Planet Soccer. And I wanted it as big as my lathe could take. The ball only is 305mm dia. and made of African wenge and rock maple. With a gentle hand push, it goes around its self for sometime.
Photo 2: the first glueing process.
photo 3: shows how close it is to the lathe bed.
photo 4: compare its size with the official foot ball.
photp 5: shows how the ball bearings are buried inside the wooden wall.
photo 6: the ball from different angle.

You are amazing!! How many pentagons and what is the angle on the side of them to get them to form a sphere?

Fantastic work, Sam!!!!!! Again, I’m blown away by your work.
If the Italians play with their “heads”, they may win. I’m expecting Brazil. Too bad my team didn’t make it, but the pint will do that to ya.
