Maple, Purpleheart and Stained Glass Box

I made this box a little bit ago and am just getting around to posting it. It’s a pretty simple box that is made of hard maple with purpleheart splines and handle. The top of the box is a piece of purple stained glass to compliment the purpleheart. The photos don’t really show that glass very well but I assure you, it is glass. :) I’ve done quite a few stained glass panels in the past and have wanted to work more glass into my wood work. In (hopefully) my next project I would like to create a stained glass panel, instead of just a single sheet. I’ll be sure to post that project when it’s completed.

I finished the box with multiple coats of tung oil and a couple coats of wipe on poly. It has some small brass hinges for the lid.

Hope you all enjoy!

Very attractive little box, my Friend!!
I really like the Glass… I’ve used plastics before, but I’ll have to be brave and try some glass one of these days…
Great Job!!

Very nice!
Suggest that you can include some etching work on top. I do some lettering on glasses using a rotary machine with 1/8 glass etching toolbit. You can personalize the box by putting the name on the top. That will enhance every glass you put into the project. Thanks for posting.

Great looking box. Stained glass panels are an excellent idea.

Super box! Maple and purpleheart work well together and the glass top insert adds a nice touch. I think a stained glass top, such as this glass top, would really be great. Can’t wait to see one!

Totally sweet design and execution. Stained glass inserts are a brilliant design addition. Looking forward to seeing more. THX.
Question. Is the glass backed by wood (the interior pic made me wonder)?
