I make quite a few boxes but this is still one of my favorite carving styles.
It is always a learning experience and fun to experiment with different styles and some just are more fun than others.

This is from my stash of salvaged oak I got from Hurricane katrina 12 years ago. the texturing comes from sandblasting. When my shop flooded again last August i repaired and rebuilt everything…but i just last week replaced my blast cabinet and equipment. This box is my first use of it…and i gotta say it was fun.

Beautiful carving almost has a Gothic quality. Any chance we can get a peek inside or is that where the gargoyle is hiding? :)
Thanks for sharing.

Awesome to see you back up and running; back up and posting. Love the textured look you get from sandblasting… any chance you could upload some pictures of your new shop setup?

Wow Greg, That story sucks! Nice piece though. Andy gave you as the inspiration for his last box that he posted.

Thanks everyone. Always a good feeling to get a new project done with satisfactory results. The blastiing creates a really nice result that I like…but it aLso creates a lot of splintery areas that have to be meticiously sanded. I have to slowly ande cautiously ruin my fingers over every spot to locate them and keep the new owner from ouching!

I just bought some Bocote and some Chechen to play around with for my next few boxes. Haven’t worked with them in a long time and look forward to making somethin’

Love seeing your work. I like how symmetrical you made this, though at first glance it seems random.
