It Ain't Pretty... but

Good reuse of material. You gotta start somewhere. It functions as a box. Keep on, keeping on.

For me it ain’t always gotta be pretty, it just has to work. It looks to me like it works and like John says, you gotta start someplace.

It certainly is a beautiful box – but it is functional, it is a box and it is made of wood – what more can you ask for.

My boss once made the comment, “Your shop’s your showplace, isn’t it?” My reply was, “No, my shop’s where I make showpieces.” (hopefully, anyway) I’ll save the good wood and meticulous detail for the pieces that are destined to leave the shop. Everything that stays just has to do the job I built it for. Besides, I might change my mind and decide to rebuild it differently tomorrow.

Looks like it does the job for a minimal cost. What more could you ask for from a “stay-in-the-shop” box? Good job.

Shop cabinets are merely large boxes too. And that plane that you found might be worth more than you think. Try “Googling” the make and model number. I have an old jack plane that was found while cleaning out an old barn. Was made in 1920 and it’s going for $236.00! So I cleaned it up and put it back into service in my own shop. OK…go make some more boxes!

I also posted a few “ain’t beautiful” projects in my list. Sometimes they just have to do the job. And, in building, you have recycled material that would have clogged landfills, learned valuable skills for when u work with “special” wood,and provided a dustfree “home” for a tool thats been used far longer than some readers have been on this earth.

Its a great wood box. Wood boxes are the best. You can do anything with them, and make them from almost anything. They are so useful and nice to look at. Your box looks similar to an antique wooden box I have, simple design that is timeless.
