We just finished a trestle table with a pull out, self storing, leaf on each end … Pulled out, they expand the table from 72” to 116”. It’s not rocket science, but I advise you to test it out with a ply or mdf mockup before applying the concept to your table design …. There are more photos and cad drawings with dimensions on my dorset custom furniture blog I have also posted a 20 second video on you tube showing the completed mechanism in action … check it out if you have a minute … dan

To me, it’s rocket science. How much weight do you think that leaf can sustain?

thank you all for your comments .. i wouldn’t dance on the leaf when it’s fully extended, but you can certainly put your elbows up and enjy your meal … Put the turkey in the middle of the table … dan

Great looking table Dan, thanks for sharing. I recently saw one at my local “Stickley” showroom and fell in love with the concept of a self storing leaf that slides out when needed. I’ve got to check out your blog and video, hopefully I can make one sometime. After viewing your blog I see it works slightly different tha the “Stickley” version, but gets the same results. Just to let you know I tried clicking on you link here to the utube vid and all I got was a vid of some birds a a feeder.
